Preserving Bugis cultural heritage in Singapore
The paper traces the efforts in preserving Bugis cultural heritage in Singapore. The Bugis community is one of the many ethnic groups living in Singapore. The study of Singapore's public cultural institutions' attempts to preserve Bugis cultural heritage is an attempt to determine the effectiveness of the efforts made by public cultural institutions and other public and private entities. Interviews were conducted through purposive sampling. The findings showed that the Bugis community's tangible and intangible cultural heritage could be found in public cultural establishments as well as other public and private initiatives in Singapore. The results of the interview findings on Singapore's public cultural institutions revealed the necessity to advocate history and culture in Singapore, not limited to Bugis cultural heritage. The paper concludes with a number of recommendations for future research directions, such as the impact of Islamisation on Malay sub-ethnic groups in Singapore.
