Lele Gayatri Satish

MA Art Therapy
Class of 2022

Gayatri is a Singapore-based artist. She pursued her MA Art Therapy at LASALLE College of the Arts after completing her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art in 2020 from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire).

Earlier in her artistic career, Gayatri’s works were an inquiry into the body and the ways it can be used as a medium in art-making, using primarily sculptural, tough and three-dimensional mediums. She has since shifted toward more fluid mediums, mainly paint, reflecting her deepening exploration of inner worlds and therapeutic self-expression.

Sacred Energy
Mixed media on canvas
30 x 90 cm

Sacred Energy is a series of mixed media paintings. This work showcases themes of honouring the self, relationship with the self and togetherness. The artwork takes up the role of a container for the artist’s expressions, anxieties and most importantly, chaos; each piece of work captures the artist’s various states of being and moments in time.

Thesis abstract

Exploring a dyadic approach to art psychotherapy with mothers and their children with life-long developmental disabilities: A single case qualitative study based in Singapore

This practitioner-based thesis conducts an inquiry into the role and function of dyadic art psychotherapy in supporting mothers and their children with autism. It demonstrates the capacity of dyadic art psychotherapy as an intervention for these given populations. The influences of Asian and Singaporean local/cultural contexts in these interventions and populations are also addressed. Further explorations include the influence of therapeutic relationships, object relations and relational bonds in dyadic art psychotherapy interventions. This thesis is supported by the presentation of a single case qualitative study conducted through the lens of a trainee. Other art therapists, clinicians or individuals from the mental health field may benefit from the findings of this thesis research.
