Avelyn came to Singapore at the age of 18 to pursue a Diploma in Dance at LASALLE College of the Arts. She is well equipped with a background in Latin ballroom dancesport from her time in Malaysia. Her passion to dance Latin ballroom competitively began when she started competing internationally from 2011, in countries such as Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Her best achievement is being named Amateur Rising Star, 10-dance category. Coming from a small hometown, she is always looking for opportunities to expand her dance knowledge and versatility, to improve as a Latin ballroom dancer. Coming to LASALLE, she was able to work with artists such as Angélique Cormier, Melissa Quek, Yarra Ileto, Susan Yeung, Goh Xiang Tian, Jenny Neo, Sufri Juwahir, Muhd Sharul Mohd and Gerard Raj. She has also participated in dance events such as da:ns festival and LASALLE’s Tipping Points.
Avelyn is interested to expand her dance career as a Latin ballroom dancer in Singapore as she has a good understanding and strong base in Latin dance. She is also keen to continue practising different dance genres which were introduced to her during her time at LASALLE, such as contemporary, street and jazz.
