Joanna George

MA Fine Arts

Joanna is an art educator and artist graduating with a MA Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts. A previous graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the National Technology University of Singapore, she holds a teaching degree and has been an art educator for more than a decade.

Joanna seeks to create entry points for audiences to process heavy subjects through her art. Her work is an amalgamation of mixed mediums, but she specifically enjoys experimenting with digital mediums and wearable sculptures or objects. Joanna's practice is also anchored in her belief that humanity is precious and should be treasured, with her seeking to amplify the voices of marginalised groups while exploring what makes them unique and beautiful. Currently, she is exploring the ideas surrounding the invisibility of brown women — ideas that are intertwined with beauty, image and visibility. Through the expression of these concepts, Joanna hopes to incite a desire for a caring and honourable culture.

Joanna has previously exhibited her works at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2008, Scape Park in 2010 and the National Institute of Education in 2010.
