Value creation in animated films: A critical examination on Disney cultural storytelling

With a growing cultural sensitivity, Disney has been developing Animated Cultural Representation (ACR) films that are culturally accurate with commercial appeal. Recognising Disney’s balancing act of cultural and economical value, this paper identifies the effective value creation strategies in its ACR films.

In a visual form, this paper uses the business model canvas to highlight the links between different strategic activities and how they create value. The research outcome will be a framework that captures the balancing act between cultural accuracy and commercial appeal. The proposed framework aims to help optimise the value creation process for creative organisations.

The findings to this research are arranged into three sectors: internal workforces, storytelling mix and streaming channels.

Disney, cultural representation, value creation, business model

Disney internal workforces, storytelling and character development, streaming channels
