Digitalisation in the events industry: What happens after COVID?
The events industry in Singapore is at a critical juncture. During the height of the pandemic, the sector resorted to technology and broadcasted events to participants. However, after the restrictions on physical gatherings intended to limit the spread of the disease were removed, the emerging trend has been a resumption of live events. The adoption of technology has therefore slowed once again.
This study explores the digitalisation of the sector to understand emerging trends and patterns. The study targets the participants in the sector, collecting data via an in-depth survey. After analysing the data using thematic analysis, the study finds that while the sector is slowly regressing to live events, adoption of digitalisation is likely to remain in the longer term. However, the sector continues to face various challenges, among them the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is recommended that the sector needs to experiment with various emerging technologies and seek more support from the government.
