Aaryama Somayaji

Aaryama is an artist and storyteller based in Singapore. She is interested in showcasing stories about food and its sociopolitical nature in the collective cultural existence of humans. Her work stems from her lived experiences in kitchens, both figurative and metaphorical. In her research she uses techniques of world building from epic fantasy literature and anthropological studies of food movements, histories and forms of consumption.

Her preferred media include ceramic, painting with inks and acrylics, copper etching, paper and fabric. She uses stories woven together in layers and complex logic systems to create other personas to create worlds within worlds to make her work relatable in a global context.
