Chooi Wai Qi
Wai Qi is a classical pianist with a diploma in piano performance, composer and trained sound engineer. She has been active in the industry since 2019, working on projects and productions such as short films as a sound designer.
She is also a recurring recording engineer for Steinway and Sons Singapore and teaches music at a music school. She hopes to advance her career in sound design through more managerial and directing roles in future.
Work
Wai Qi was the head of audio for CHOPPA Experimental Electronic Music Festival (2022–2023) and Rock & Indie Festival (2020). She was the sound designer for theatre productions Homesick (2021) and T:>Works' How To Break A Window II (2022).
Wai Qi also performed in Esplanade's In Youthful Company (2023) as a pianist and was a composer for the short film Mera Bhai (dir. Shreela Agarwal), which was screened at the Singapore International Film Festival. She was also an assistant stage manager for theatre show FYI: McBeat with Esplanade, where she also picked up skill sets as a dresser.
