Gabriel is an aspiring writer graduating with an MA in Creative Writing from LASALLE College of the Arts. His interest spans genres into experiments that combine words, visuals and technology. His works have been read at the Singapore Writers Festival and NTU English Graduate Research Symposium, and have also been published in SAMPAN: The LASALLE Anthology of Creative Writing, for which he has served as chief editor and editor. Thesis work

The Nakamiya Halfway House For Wayward Souls is a realist novel excerpt about a Singaporean who runs away to a sharehouse in a Japanese postal town. As he grapples with the foreign environment and the problems he ran away from, he uncovers the secrets of the sharehouse and those living in it.

The excerpt employs kishōtenketsu, an inductive Japanese narrative structure that relies on developing events and revelations, rather than tension and conflict, as a story’s driving force, with consideration to how the narrative structure can be employed in the writing of English literary prose.
