Abergale is a writer of short stories, poetry and creative non-fiction. Her works explore the feminine, identity, and human rights.

In 2020, her screenplay was shortlisted for the Asia TV Forum Online Drama Series pitch, which was open to all Asian countries. In her spare time, she writes book reviews for Grimdark Magazine, where she indulges in new horror and weird fiction.

Thesis work

House of Tears and Other Stories is a short story cycle set in Japanese-occupied Singapore from 1942 to 1945. The stories explore the interior lives of Eurasian women during the war, whose memories were largely undocumented and obscured in Singapore’s historical narrative.

These stories are rooted in family histories and draw on diasporic and feminist post-colonial frameworks to explore themes of identity, loss, survival and womanhood. The eponymous story, 'House of Tears', reclaims the voice of a Eurasian comfort woman as she meditates on her stolen youth and freedom.
