MA Asian Art Histories
2019 — 2020

Alison Marrinan volunteers as a docent at SAM and the National Gallery Singapore. She has an MBA (International Management) and previously worked in Australia as a clinical dietitian-nutritionist, holding an academic position managing a postgraduate training program for junior doctors in general practice. With her recently completed thesis, 'Water and Power in Society through the Eco-Aesthetics of Contemporary Art in the Mekong Region', Alison has incidentally combined her love for Southeast Asian art history with her concern for the health and well-being of others and the environment.

Work

Water and power in society through the eco-aesthetics of contemporary art in the Mekong region.

This study investigates through an ecopolitical lens, how contemporary artists Lim Sokchanlina, Khvay Samnang, Bounpaul Phothyzan and Korakrit Arunanondchai question prominent powers of neoliberalism, anthropogenic climate change and spiritual symbolism, relating to water in the Mekong region.
