Thesis abstract

An investigation into engaging youths in museums: a case study of National Gallery Singapore

Despite often reinventing themselves to stay relevant to the public, museums have neglected the need to engage youths in regular museum visits. This study focuses on investigating these barriers as well as identifying youths’ general perception on museums. A case study on National Gallery Singapore (NGS) is also used to understand the current programmes aimed at engaging youths and provide insight to the future plans museums have in engaging this young demographic. Using a mixed methodology of interviews and surveys, this study will discuss its findings on how the Gallery can calibrate its programmes to fully engage youths.
