Tan yingQi is an arts manager looking to create memorable moments through arts and culture for Singaporeans. Her early journey in a symphonic band saw her in leadership roles, as she participated in various local and international music festivals. Inspired by this, yingQi sought to contribute to the arts and recreate similar experiences for youths to find joy in the arts. During her time in LASALLE, she has been actively involved in the arts industry, being part of the team managing ARTWALK Little India 2019 and the Kids’ Philharmonic@sg Orchestra and also interning at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre.

Thesis abstract

Investigating the role and purpose of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the importance of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre as an initiative to nurture greater appreciation of Singapore’s multicultural identity and a stronger sense of belonging. Through qualitative research, the key components of this dissertation includes a thematic analysis of understanding the roles and the purpose in setting up Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, identifying the stakeholders and discussing how effective the centre has been in nurturing Singapore Chinese culture. This research seeks to discuss the impact of Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre to the Singapore arts and culture ecosystem and the promotion of the Singapore Chinese identity.

Organised primary and secondary school curriculum in relation to the permanent exhibition and developed content for exhibition guide for educators, created graphics for newsletters, liaised with vendors for quotations.

Managed the welfare of over 100 students, parents and artists, executed and scheduled student concert in Victoria Concert Hall, maintained daily operations of the orchestra.
