About

MONOLITH by Kai Lin explores how clothing can act as a form of emotional support. Her work is rooted in themes of mental well-being, comfort and cultural identity, translating personal and collective experiences into tactile, wearable forms.

With interest in the relationship between the body and garment, MONOLITH uses draping, layering and experimental construction to create pieces that feel protective, adaptable, and intimate.

By subtly reinterpreting elements of personal heritage within a contemporary context, MONOLITH aims to bridge tradition and modernity while encouraging a more mindful and lasting relationship between wearer and clothing.

SALT & SOLACE

In a generation where anxiety is becoming normalised, Kai Lin wanted to design clothing not just to be worn but to provide a sense of comfort.

Her collection explores healing through the ocean, personal comfort objects and cultural identity. Instead of giving power to anxiety, Kai Lin focused on ways humans cope with anxiety through touch, colour and familiarity. Her collection translates an internal emotional experience into a physical, visual form, making it both personal and universally relatable.

The key design feature of this collection is the play of pillowcase draping, where garments mimic the comfort of a weighted pillow to wrap around the body as a form of soft armour. It incorporates interactive metal trimmings that function like fidget objects, allowing the wearer to physically engage with the garment.

Some of the pieces are modular—allowing transformation that reflects how emotional needs shift over time.

This collection integrates sustainability through design innovation and material choices. I integrated minimal-waste cutting methods to reduce unnecessary fabric waste and incorporate modular garments that encourage versatility and longevity. Selected pieces are made from deadstock fabrics, giving new life to existing materials and reducing reliance on new production. The collection aims to inspire a more mindful approach to fashion, where garments are designed to be adaptable, responsible, and enduring.
