About

Gabrielle, better known as Bella, is a creative unwilling to be confined by a single discipline.

While fashion remains central to her practice, her interests extend far beyond clothing, moving between art, history, film, music, media and contemporary culture. She views fashion as more than an aesthetic expression, using it as a lens to critique, dissect and better understand the world around her.

Bella's work is deeply rooted in storytelling, research and cultural analysis, often exploring the emotional relationships people form with spaces, imagery and memory. She is particularly drawn to contrasts: nostalgia and modernity, permanence and disappearance, beauty and discomfort.

Through writing, image-making, branding and fashion communication, she aims to create work that feels visually engaging while remaining thoughtful and reflective.

Cult: 'Of Woman Born'

Image

Gabrielle Anderson

Cult is a womenswear label that reimagines cult classics through a contemporary female lens, placing women’s desires and perspectives at the centre of each collection.

The brand derives its name not from religious ideology or organised belief, but from the idea of cult followings and cultural obsessions, drawing inspiration from films, literature and media that develop enduring and impassioned audiences over time. Rather than functioning as a trend-driven label, Cult operates as a narrative system rooted in fascination, reverence and emotional attachment.

Cult’s debut collection, 'Of Woman Born', examines the gothic romance genre through a contemporary feminine lens. Inspired by recurring portrayals of women in film and literature, often depicted through sleep, illness, fragility or insanity, the collection explores the tension between visibility and autonomy. Though these women are frequently stripped of agency, they remain central to the narrative, transforming vulnerability into something haunting and romantic.

Special thanks to Sofia McDonalds, Tiara Tamilselvan and Evreen Kaur. This project would not have been possible without their generosity, time and belief in the vision of Cult. Their contributions have left an indelible mark upon its creation.

If you wish to see more of Bella’s work such as her industry collaboration with F ZINE, it can be found [here]. The project includes a written article exploring the loss of third spaces in Singapore and the urgent need to protect them, alongside a two-part video series documenting the people behind spaces such as Peace Centre and Pearl's Hill Terrace.
