About
Manasi is a graduating student of the BA (Hons) Fine Arts programme at LASALLE College of the Arts. Her journey in art began in childhood, which sparked a deep and enduring passion that has since evolved into a pursuit of boundless creativity.
Among the many themes she explores, the concept of art as meditation holds a particularly profound resonance. For Manasi, art extends beyond expression; it becomes a conduit for curiosity, a way to delve into the ineffable and a means of finding solace in the quiet rhythm of creation. Meditation is not merely a practice but a way of life that flows into her artistic process.
Manasi is especially drawn to mediums such as pouring art and mandala creation, where colours and forms unfold in a meditative harmony. Working across diverse surfaces, including canvas, bottles, CDs, stones and wooden panels, she transforms each into a space for exploration, reflecting a sense of inner calm and serenity.
Layered Structures: Translating Interiority into Sculptural Form
The sculpture, consisting of a series of connecting rings, explores how thoughts, information and internal states are held, shaped and sometimes compressed within constructed boundaries.
As the rings connect and accumulate, they form a fragile but growing system, reflecting meditation as a cyclical, disciplined act, while the enclosing layers suggest pressure and control.
Research methodology and theoretical framework
This work develops from experiments using folded newspaper rings assembled into a three-dimensional structure.
Each ring represents a unit of information and repeated labour. As the rings connect and accumulate, they form a fragile but growing system. Parts of the structure are covered or restrained with mesh and other materials, creating tension between exposure and containment.
