Diploma in Music

Mohd Shafi’e Bin Mohd Shahrul

About

Shafi’e majors in bass guitar in the Diploma in Music programme at LASALLE College of the Arts. Driven by a strong passion for music, he has expanded his craft by performing across various shows, bands and learning multiple instruments beyond his major.

At 17, Shafi’e got his first bass guitar after four years of playing the electric guitar. He developed a strong liking for the instrument, honing his skills through tablature and learning songs by ear before enrolling at LASALLE, where he further refined his techniques and musicality.

While modern metalcore is his main genre, he has explored other styles such as R&B, soul and ballads. He has performed as a bassist in bands including Blush Hotel and most notably, the modern metalcore band SHINSEINA, where he also serves as a backup vocalist. His previous shows with SHINSEINA include their extended play launch Hell & Wonder in 2024 and Baybeats 2025, where the band secured a spot in the Baybeats Budding Programme after two rounds of auditions among 19 competing bands.

His tone draws influence from artists such as Adam “Nolly” Getgood (Periphery) , Jacob Umansky (Intervals), Alejandra Villarreal (The Warning) and Josh Ham (Planetshakers), shaping a blend of clear and punchy bass textures.

Alongside his studies, he has completed an internship as a music and sound engineer, developing skills in instrument troubleshooting, live sound operation and post-production editing.

Shafi’e aims to continue growing as a musician with his band while exploring new musical projects across different styles.
