This project explores the development of a visual identity system for a Minnan Culture exhibition, focusing on the preservation and reinterpretation of regional cultural heritage through contemporary design.
The project draws inspiration from key aspects of Minnan culture, including belief systems, maritime migration, traditional architecture and local human traditions.
At the core of the visual system is a four-petal flower motif, derived from traditional Minnan floral tiles. This motif symbolises harmony, cultural continuity and the exchange between local and foreign influences shaped by historical migration to Nanyang. Supporting visual elements such as gradient colours, flowing curves and symbolic forms are used to represent the sea, movement and the passage of time.
The project is applied across multiple platforms, including posters, brochures, banners, social media, motion graphics, web design and extension products. Through these applications, the project aims to communicate Minnan culture in a visually engaging and accessible way, bridging tradition with contemporary design.

As part of the design communication team, Yiqian was responsible for shooting videos and select photography, while the broader team developed the brand book, social media posts, email marketing, bus stop banners and more.
SBG Connecting the Line - Plant DNA
The Singapore Botanic Gardens Herbarium is conceived as a living archive that explores the symbiotic relationship between science, nature and cultural heritage. Inspired by the morphology and taxonomic systems of plants, this project reflects how botanical structures inform both the physical and conceptual organisation of the Herbarium.
At its core, the Herbarium balances scientific precision with the organic qualities of nature. It positions humans not as owners of nature, but as observers, recorders and interpreters—individuals who systematically classify, collect and study plant life across time.
Through the perspectives of different roles, the project deepens this narrative. A curator views the herbarium as a space where “people age, but plant specimens speak,” emphasising preservation and legacy. A researcher, on the other hand, engages in an ongoing dialogue with history, where “studying specimens from 1890 is like having a conversation with the past.”
By connecting botanical memories from the past, present and future, the Herbarium becomes more than a repository of specimens. It is a collaborative archive shaped by both humans and plants, where each specimen serves as a record of time, knowledge and coexistence.
The concept was completed in collaboration with Desy, Yiqian, Eqa, Jianzhou and Zhiwei.
