Alysa Natalia Bte Hardi
About
Alysa Natalia is a third-year design communication student with a detail-oriented approach and a distinct sensitivity to colour, form and composition.
Her practice is driven by a curiosity on how ideas can be translated into visual outcomes that feel both intentional and expressive. With a whimsical approach to making, she explores the balance between playfulness and precision—bringing together vibrant palettes, thoughtful detailing and carefully considered design decisions.
Her work reflects an interest in creating pieces that are not only visually engaging but also enduring. Rather than following fleeting trends, Alysa focuses on developing designs that carry a sense of longevity, where each element is purposeful and refined. She pays close attention to the smaller aspects of design, believing that detail is what transforms a concept into something memorable and complete.
Working across different mediums, Alysa continues to experiment with how colour, layout and form interact to shape visual narratives. Her process is rooted in exploration and iteration, allowing her ideas to evolve while maintaining a clear and cohesive direction.
Through her projects, she aims to create outcomes that feel playful yet grounded—designs that invite engagement while remaining thoughtful and resolved.
Kasiah Gadang, a Minangkabau haute fashion brand is positioned as a cultural authority in contemporary couture, translating the depth of matrilineal heritage into sculptural, concept-driven garments that exist between runway and ritual.
Rooted in the symbolism of the rumah gadang, the weight of the suntiang and the labour of songket, the brand does not reinterpret tradition for trend, but extends it into a new visual language of power, structure and inheritance.
The brand explores traditional Minangkabau values through dialogue between heritage and edge, reinterpreting the sharp, upward silhouettes of the rumah gadang into contemporary forms.
These structures are not just architectural; they embody strength, matrilineal pride and resilience. The brand preserves, interprets and shares Minangkabau values through haute fashion. Values such as matrilineality, adat, merantau and community are displayed through contemporary imagery and illustrations that resonate with younger generations and diaspora of audiences.
As Samsung's 'For Everything You love' campaign offered creative freedom, Alysa combined her interests by illustrating Perenakan tiles and integrating elements of old school games including capteh and five stones, set within a whimsical aesthetic interpreted in a retro, colourful style.
This campaign concept juxtaposes the beauty and serenity of a garden with the tension and drama of a conflict unfolding right at its threshold.
Imagine an ornate, ancient gate—perhaps encrusted with vines, blossoms and intricate carvings—that serves as the symbolic barrier between a haven of natural splendour and the encroaching forces of chaos.
This campaigns aims to primarily target groups of children aged from seven to 13, and their parents, while secondarily aiming to educate youths about the importance of preserving heritage gardens. Through these explorations, thrill-seekers can expand their knowledge of the activities that awaits them. The experience is also designed to be kid-friendly.
The overall concept is inspired by familiar fantasy worlds such as Dungeons & Dragons and Game of Thrones, which feature monarchies, magical powers and mythical creatures. The end goal is for audiences to gain values, morals and meaningful learning outcomes. Hence, the concept is not intended to be overly childish, as the overall message is meant to resonate across both younger and older generations.
