About
Fashion has been part of Shylaa Chahal's life since childhood, shaped by visits to her mother’s boutique in her childhood where she would watch designers bring beautiful garments to life. Being surrounded by fabrics, silhouettes, colours and craftsmanship sparked her interest in fashion and encouraged her to experiment with her own design ideas, which received a lot of support. Over time, this early curiosity grew into a deeper interest in how fashion functions not only as a form of creative expression but also as a powerful tool for storytelling, branding and business.
Shylaa is passionate about the intersection of fashion, marketing, media and business strategy. Her academic journey has helped her to understand how brands build identity, communicate values and connect with consumers through visual storytelling, campaigns and strategic positioning. She is particularly interested in how marketing influences fashion trends, consumer behaviour and brand engagement. Internships have empowered her with practical skills in logistics, digital marketing campaigns, client coordination and trend observation. Altogether, these experiences strengthen her understanding of consumer preferences, brand communication and the importance of balancing creativity with commercial goals.
For Shyla, fashion is a space where creativity and strategy work seamlessly together. Upon graduation, she aims to contribute to fashion projects that are visually engaging, culturally aware and commercially meaningful, through good branding, content creation, marketing and business development. Her goal is to continue growing as a fashion professional who can combine creative thinking with strong strategic insight.
Kahaani is a culture-forward Indianwear rental platform designed to revive the practice of wearing Indian occasion garb in a more accessible, sustainable and meaningful way. Created for Gen Z women and millennials across India and the diaspora, Kahaani offers designer-quality event wardrobing through a rental-based circular fashion model.
The platform curates expressive, functional and culturally rooted garments from emerging designers, making Indianwear easier to access without the pressure of buying expensive outfits that may only be worn once. Each piece is selected not only for its style, but for its story, craft and heritage.
Kahaani’s collections are divided into seasonal edits such as wedding wear and festive wear, with rotating pieces that can later be resold or upcycled. The platform also includes a 'Donate your Kahaani' option, where customers can contribute their pre-owned festive wear for re-rental or upcycling and earn store credits or outfit swaps.
Through rental, rewearing, donation and storytelling, Kahaani promotes a more conscious way of engaging with Indian fashion while keeping culture relevant for a new generation.
