Yi Enn's final year project explores the question, “Is there a Singapore fashion archetype?”
It investigates how Singaporean youth express identity through fashion and how their style is shaped by both local conditions and global influences. The guiding hypothesis is that Singaporean youth possess identifiable hybrid fashion archetypes that are influenced by climate, culture, digital trends, lifestyle habits and the urban environment.
Through research, observation, styling, photography, publication design, digital content and an interactive website, the project maps out a series of youth fashion archetypes that reflect the way young people dress in Singapore today. Rather than defining Singapore fashion through one fixed aesthetic, the project presents it as functional, hybrid and adaptive. It looks at how everyday choices—such as breathable clothing, casual silhouettes, global trend references and personal styling details—come together to form a visual language unique to Singapore’s youth culture.
The final outcome includes a website, photoshoot series, posters, social media content and an archetype quiz. These deliverables work together to create an archive of Singapore youth fashion, allowing audiences to browse, relate to and identify with different archetypes. Ultimately, the project celebrates the subtle but meaningful ways Singaporean youth use fashion to negotiate identity, environment and self-expression.
