Chen Geyang

Geyang is a textile designer whose practice is rooted in research-led design and material exploration. She draws inspiration from exhibitions, artist portfolios and observational research to inform her creative process.

Her graduation project focuses on the traditional dress of the Miao culture, developed through an extended period of research over the past two years. This included fieldwork in Guizhou, China, where she engaged with local communities to understand their daily lives and traditional craft practices, such as silver-work and embroidery.

Through this experience, Geyang has developed a strong interest in cultural heritage and textile traditions. Her work is shaped by an immersive approach that combines research, observation and material investigation to inform her textile outcomes.

Moving forward, she hopes to continue developing her practice through further professional training, with the aim of contributing to the preservation and continued relevance of cultural textile traditions.
