Kicking in Colors and Not Your Madi

Kicking In Colors

A Spring/Summer editorial for ELLE Singapore capturing vibrant summer energy and high-fashion moments under the Singapore sun. Inspired by chapteh, a beloved local childhood game, the editorial reimagines a playful spontaneous summer day through bold styling and dynamic movements, exploring the spirit of high summer fashion in Singapore.

Not Your Madi

Not Your Madi is a contemporary fashion brand based in Myanmar and Singapore, designed and crafted by Burmese women. The brand reinterprets Myanmar’s cultural heritage through contemporary fashion, empowering women to express identity, confidence and individuality while staying connected to their roots.

Each collection draws inspiration from different aspects of Burmese culture, traditions and everyday elements, with every season exploring a new cultural reference.

Not Your Madi transforms traditional Myanmar culture into bold, meaningful and wearable statements for modern Burmese and global women, encouraging them to embrace and wear their culture proudly.

Bridging heritage and modern self-expression, the brand empowers Burmese women to reclaim identity and challenge outdated traditional norms and the 'good girl' archetype, 'Madi'. With bold, maximalist, and expressive designs, Not Your Madi is not just a fashion brand, but a movement for women who are anything but ordinary.

'The Girl and Her Pyit Tine Htaung' (debut collection)

This collection is a tribute to the unbreakable spirit, strength and resilience of Burmese women, inspired by Pyit Tine Htaung, a traditional Burmese toy that always returns upright no matter how it is thrown. Like the toy, this collection celebrates the resilience of women who rise regardless of life’s hardships.

Pyit Tine Htaung symbolises resilience, strength, optimism and the ability to rise again. At its core, the collection reflects these values and serves a reminder to stand back up and move forward.

The collection also incorporates other meaningful cultural references, including the Gant Gaw Flower, which is long associated with Burmese culture, youth, memory and quiet strength. Additionally, traditional Burmese silhouettes from the Kong Baung era are reimagined into contemporary garments, bringing culture into modern day, and elements such as the longyi and ka duang are translated into modern garments, preserving their essence while redesigning them for today.
