Diploma in Design for Communication and Experiences

Desy Sabrina Binte Kusnon

About

Desy is a design student who explores new possibilities through drawing and imagination, bringing her own personality to every blank canvas. She sees her sketchbook as a space for self-expression, where ideas, memories and emotions come together.

Art is both her skill and passion, leading her to work across various mixed media from graphic design to video editing and animation. As an independent and empathetic artist, she values symbolism, meaning and the story behind every artwork.

Desy's main focus is designing illustrations that express freedom and bring characters to life. Through past internships, she has developed strengths in storyboarding, vector designs and marketing. These experiences have helped her to build confidence, step out of her comfort zone and embrace authenticity, with the goal of contributing to a community that welcomes those in need.

Built-In Minds

Built-In Minds was designed to raises awareness about mental disabilities, highlighting hidden disabilities in Singapore.

Trends across social media and news outlets reveal that there is an increasing tendency toward ridicule, mockery and the spread of misinformation, particularly among younger generations,

To address this, a website was developed, combining knowledge with interactive play including a puzzle game at https://built-inminds.framer.website/

A series of posters were also designed for Built-In Minds, showcasing illustration work developed using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as seen in the images below.

9 Lives, 9 Lines (Tobyato X LASALLE X Middle Child Collab)

This image features LASALLE student representatives alongside their illustrations, as well as Tobyato and the the owners of Middle Child . For more details on the design, visit https://www.behance.net/gallery/242551777/9-Lives-9-Lines-(Tobyato-X-LASALLE-X-Middle-Child)

In Year 3, design students were invited to collaborate with local illustrator Tobyato and the owner of Middle Child Bar.

Tobyato provided a rough outline of a feline and the students were tasked with either developing their designs to fill this outline from their on-campus internship or creating something entirely new.

Desy chose to create a new and simple design for the feline's right outer leg and tail. While the tail was intended to be installed inside Middle Child Bar, it is not visible due to a wall barrier at the top. However, the digital version of the design is available on Behance.

Finding Your Inner Zen was a video produced as part of a Year 2 assignment. The work reflects on life, capturing memories from various events, including quiet observations such as empty seats in the MRT and time spent in nature while contemplating the future.

Through the lens of the camera, Desy documents these moments, whether revisiting memory lanes or spending time alone, or with friends. The process becomes a source of relaxation and joy, evoking a sense of calm and happiness.

Overall, the work conveys the importance of appreciating life's moments, taking pride in personal growth and achievements and cherishing memories while they last.
