At the edges of Singapore lies the City of the Disgruntled, a fragmented settlement rising from Semakau Island. Here, people who feel overlooked or dissatisfied with their former lives arrive seeking a new sense of existence.
Seong Mu, a former pavement marker tired of enforcing order, operates a sign-making factory that secretly functions as a brainwashing facility in the City of the Disgruntled.
People pass through staged conditioning zones before being sent to produce propaganda posters shaped by implanted beliefs. The building’s programme is woven with pipe-like walkways that act as both circulation and surveillance routes.
Its form, composed like a meticulous photo-collage of surrounding structures, lets Seong Mu observe the factory’s operations and the restless city he seeks to disrupt.
