Measuring arts appreciation in the age of creative technology: Immersive visual arts exhibitions

The rise of immersive visual arts exhibitions has transformed contemporary cultural spaces, especially in technologically advanced cities such as Singapore. Though galleries were once primarily spaces of quiet observation and contemplation, they are now increasingly adopting creative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), interactive projections and augmented environments that create new dimensions of multi-sensory experiences for audiences. These tools have not only reshaped how exhibitions are designed, but how audiences appreciate the arts.

This research paper covers the following areas: 1) the relationship between creative technology, AI and the creation of immersive exhibitions, 2) the ways in which immersive exhibitions employ creative technologies that engage audiences on sensory, cognitive and emotional levels and 3) how these creative technologies affect the appreciation for the arts.

Together, these three areas intend to discover the positive and negative impacts of creative technology on artistic integrity and curatorial depth in exhibitions as well as its impact on arts appreciation.
