About
Sarah is a graduating student of the Diploma in Interior Design programme whose practice explores the space between material, perception and narrative.
Drawing from her upbringing in the Middle East and her Chinese heritage, her work reflects an ongoing reconciliation of identity through spatial storytelling. Her design approach is rooted in transformation and transition, often inspired by processes and symbolism that can be experienced spatially.
Sarah’s work extends beyond traditional interior design into photography, poetry and digital art, which inform her sensitivity to atmosphere and emotion in space. Through her projects, she aims to design environments that are not fixed, but evolving—spaces that invite adaptation and multiple ways of inhabiting.
Re-Introduction proposes a hybrid environment for making, learning and exhibition, aimed at revitalising traditional metalworking practices by engaging with a new generation of users. It creates a platform where craftsmanship is not only preserved but reinterpreted through contemporary participation and collaboration.
Situated along King George’s Avenue in Jalan Besar, the project responds to a district historically shaped by small-scale industrial trades now in decline, alongside the rise of a younger creative community. This intersection offers an opportunity to bridge heritage and evolving cultural practices. A new grid system intersects the existing structural framework, generating dynamic spatial conditions.
This dual-grid strategy embodies the coexistence of tradition and renewal, allowing craft to evolve through new spatial and social interactions.
