panacea (pleaseholdmyhandwhenyoutellmethis)

panacea is an exploration into how chronic conditions can lead to, subtract from, amalgamate with and influence the experience of intimacy, and subsequently, the self.

Fragmented text, both poetry and prose, is found throughout the book, accompanied by photographs. The book is placed on a lower shelf, barely hidden by curtains, inside a box resembling pill packaging. Nitrile gloves are placed beside the box, prompting the viewer to use them to interact with the object. Two empty chairs stand against the wall, referencing the artist and her partner, who are represented by Samuel Beckett's Vladimir and Estragon throughout the book; the chairs also suggest the clinical nature of a waiting room.

This work negotiates the relationship between the two subjects, who both suffer from multiple chronic illnesses, in their attempts for relief, management and a cure. As the artist reflects on the phenomenological nature of the body, panacea serves as a documentation of the conflict between hope for recovery and acceptance of existence.
