Vera Ananda Binte Muhamad Shaiful
About
Vera explores the expressive possibilities of colour through semi-realistic figures shaped by a surrealist approach. Her work exists in the space between reality and imagination, where familiar forms are reinterpreted into something more fluid and ambiguous.
Vera draws inspiration from a wide range of cultures and art forms, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. These influences inform both the visual language and atmosphere of her work, allowing her to create pieces that feel layered, immersive and open to interpretation.
Vera seek to build worlds that invite curiosity where colour, form and narrative intertwine to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection
Ketidakadilan
Time changes everything. People evolve, art styles expand, yet the world’s problems remain stubbornly constant. War still persists. No matter how advanced society becomes or how far humanity progresses, unity remains out of reach, fractured by greed, power and politics.
In this work, the artist navigates this tension through contrast. Layers of texture, depth and colour become a language through which she explore the fragile divide between good and evil. Each surface carries weight; each mark holds a quiet resistance.
This exploration is rooted in the artist's heritage, drawing from Javanese and Malay influences. These cultural traces anchor the work, allowing it to move between the personal and the collective, the intimate and the universal.
Also present in the work is a sense of unease. The work seeks to reveal the way violence, corruption and abuses of power are so often softened, dismissed or rendered distant. By shifting the realism of figures in the work, the artist plays with perception, unsettling the boundary between what feels real and what is easily ignored.
A dark, warm palette envelops the work, casting it in a quiet intensity. Within this atmosphere, something lingers unresolved and, perhaps, unwilling to be forgotten.
