About

Trudy Grace Fortune is a LASALLE College of the Arts graduate and a textile fashion designer based in Indonesia. She views fashion as more than just wearable items—it is a form of art. For Trudy, fashion goes beyond trends and functionality as a medium of self-expression, much like painting and music.

Trudy's focus is on women’s contemporary streetwear, targeting Gen Z consumers aged 20 to 28. Her textile design work is characterised by neon colours, shibori-dyed base fabrics and bold, clashing prints created through screen printing and digital printing.

Print is Trudy's medium for sharing personal stories. By experimenting and developing her textiles, Trudy hopes to inspire others with similar journeys.

PLEDGE FROM A LEGACY

PLEDGE /plɛdʒ/: a serious promise characterised by deep sincerity.

Drawing inspiration from ancient Indonesia, where batik makers used batik motifs to convey messages to the wearer—whether prayers, hopes or guidance for the future—this collection likewise captures a life-changing experience in Grace's life. In 2020, a 16-year-old Trudy lost her father, one of her biggest supporters.

Exploring loss, grief and childhood memories, her aim for this collection is to put into tangible texture how grief changes one forever. While there will always be a hole in her heart for the dearly departed, Trudy wants to move beyond her grief and honour how her father would have wanted her to live.

PLEDGE features three main visual motifs.

The first is inspired by the teddy bear the designer's father gave her as a child.

The next captures handprints, an ode to her father holding her hand in her childhood, as well as the childhood activity of parents printing one's hand on paper.

The final motif is a silhouette of a father and daughter, based off an old photo with Trudy's father.
