About

Wei Yan is a multidisciplinary creative with a background in product design and over 15 years of experience in dance. She is an aspiring digital artist, 3D artist, educator and designer who enjoys exploring creativity across both physical and digital mediums.

Her interests span 3D design, architecture, game design, interior design and graphic design, as well as hands-on crafts such as sewing, painting, leatherwork, drawing, hairstyling and prop-making. She enjoys learning through making, and is open to picking up new skills and challenging herself creatively.

Since 2018, she has been teaching dance and art to children and youth, encouraging them to explore creativity, movement and hands-on expression beyond screens. Working closely with younger generations has shaped her interest in how technology influences behaviour, attention and daily life, which inspired her project exploring excessive screen use, doomscrolling and manipulative digital design.

She considers herself to be a quick learner who adapts easily to new environments and works well under pressure. Above all, she hopes to continue growing as both a creative and educator, while using design to create more meaningful and thoughtful experiences for people.

This project addresses rising excessive screen use among children and adolescents caused by persuasive digital design and doomscrolling behaviours. Traditional solutions relying on restriction often prove ineffective.

A physical, interactive exhibition is proposed to raise awareness and encourage self-reflection, transforming invisible digital habits into tangible experiences that promote healthier relationships with technology.
