Yura Sakiyama
About
Yura is an illustrator whose practice focuses on character-based work, using a calm and atmospheric palette that balances softness with subtle tension and emotional nuance.
Her work is characterised by expressive portraiture, restrained colour and a quiet narrative that unfolds gradually. Drawing from contemporary media and classical influences, Yura explores emotional distance and connection between characters.
Yura's work, with their strong emphasis on composition, rhythm and visual restraint, invites open interpretation. Through ongoing experimentation, she continues to develop a visual language that is understated, reflective and attentive to detail.
Symbiosis
This work reflects on the quiet forces that shape everyday life.
Love, beauty and freedom sit at the core of human experience. They offer moments of warmth and happiness, yet at the same time draw us into a cycle of longing that never fully settles. These values guide how we move through the world, through relationships, memories and a sense of belonging. Yet beneath this, there is a lingering tension, a quiet restlessness that sits alongside moments of joy.
Presented as a series of paintings in the format of an album, the work gathers small and fleeting moments of coexistence. These instances of warmth and connection appear briefly, offering a pause within the dull ache of everyday melancholy.
At the same time, the work reflects on the inner condition of the younger generation. In a world shaped by constant connection through social media, there remains a sense of distance and isolation. Within this space, emotions are often held back, difficult to express and are quietly carried.
