Nur Syuhadah Binte Suhaimi
About
Syuhadah is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is deeply influenced by an ongoing dialogue between faith, heritage and contemporary expressions. She draws inspiration from the Quran, the Hadith and the teachings of the Prophets to explore the themes of spiritual growth and identity.
With a background in diverse mediums—ranging from traditional painting and printmaking to intricate textile work—she seeks to manifest the quiet beauty and wisdom of Islam in a modern context. Her work is characterised by a deep intentionality, where every material choice and motif serves as a reflection of her personal journey and commitment to sharing the serenity of her beliefs with a wider audience.
Hidayah (هداية)
Hidayah is a mixed media textile installation that explores a personal journey of rediscovering Islam. The work consists of individually suspended panels of organza and chiffon, visualising how divine guidance moves from a fixed plan to a lived experience.
The installation begins with black organza, representing the Divine Decree (Qadr) and is followed by white organza, where hand-embroidered stitches and hanging threads symbolise the soul’s purity (Fitra). This then leads to yellow organza, that represents light of guidance (Nur) and growth. The sequence ends with an empty ivory chiffon flowing to the centre of the floor, marking the journey’s end: the humble, physical act of prostration and surrender.
