Jeong Kristal Soojeong
About
Kristal is a creative designer who thrives at the intersection of imaginative concept and tangible execution.
For her, design is a complete journey where the initial spark of an idea is as strong as the technical foundation that supports it. She brings a thoughtful, comprehensive perspective to every project, ensuring that the selection of materials, the nuances of colour and the precision of furniture, fixtures and equipment work in perfect harmony.
Kristal's high-speed creative workflow allows her to iterate rapidly without losing sight of the finer details. This efficiency is grounded in a professional history that sets her apart.
Having navigated various sectors, from business trading and sales to education and solid wood design, she possesses a multifaceted understanding of how design functions in the real world. Her exposure to luxury hospitality taught her the art of refined elegance, while her hands-on experience with furniture design gave her a grounded respect for the integrity of craftsmanship and raw materials.
Kristal views her projects through a wide lens, blending the pragmatism of business with the empathy of an educator and the vision of an artist. This unique blend of experiences allows her to create spaces that are not only aesthetically striking and delivered with impressive speed, but are also purposefully built to be functional, durable and resonant.
The OSMOSIS proposes bridging generations at the King George’s Avenue site through an 'osmotic' design framework.
Recognising the high concentration of elderly residents and the deep-rooted Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) heritage of Jalan Besar, this project acts as a semi-permeable membrane that brings the young and old together. By blending traditional healing with a modern TCM bar, the design allows youth and the elderly to engage with one another within a shared social landscape.
Glass walls, partitions and semi-permeable structures function as the filters for this osmosis, allowing the neighbourhood's history and modern energy to flow through the space. This design replaces solid boundaries with inviting textures that encourage everyone to gather, creating a welcoming hub where different generations can connect as one community.
These hand-drawn landscape illustrations capture the intricate details of both grand architecture and everyday urban life. Using a combination of fine linework and expressive textures, the drawings explore the contrast between the soaring, ornate arches of traditional interiors and the gritty, lived-in charm of a modern city corner.
This rendering illustrates a design at the intersection of ceramics, neuroscience and psychology, crafted to facilitate novel therapeutic experiences. The space utilises organic wooden textures and lush greenery to create a multisensory environment aimed at promoting mental well-being and cognitive harmony.
