About

Karren is an artist and BA (Hons) Interior Design student graduating from LASALLE College of the Arts.

Her academic journey has provided her with a strong foundation in both visual art and spatial design, developed through a combination of traditional drawing, painting and hands-on project-based learning. These experiences have shaped her ability to think creatively while maintaining a clear and functional design approach.

Karren is comfortable working across different stages of the design process, including research, conceptualisation, spatial planning and presentation. Her design approach focuses on clarity, functionality and atmosphere, with a growing interest in materiality and how textures, light and form influence spatial experience.

Her academic projects include community-focused spaces and mixed-use developments, where she explored user needs, site conditions and spatial relationships. These projects have strengthened her ability to create thoughtful and well-resolved environments that respond to both social interaction and everyday living.

Pasar Hidup

Pasar Hidup reimagines the traditional market as a vibrant, multilayered community hub that extends beyond commerce into a space for everyday social interaction and shared experiences.

The design integrates a supermarket at the base to anchor public activity, with childcare facilities positioned above to provide a safe and supportive environment, as well as additional social spaces that encourage gathering and community engagement.

This programme is organised through a clear vertical zoning strategy that balances public and private functions while maintaining strong spatial connections. At the heart of the project, a central staircase acts as both a circulation spine and a social catalyst, linking different levels while creating opportunities for interaction, pause and visual connectivity.

The architecture emphasises openness, fluid movement and accessibility, allowing users to navigate the space intuitively while experiencing a sense of continuity throughout. Natural light, ventilation and soft material expressions contribute to a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, while subtle curves and spatial layering enhance the identity of the design.

Rooted in contemporary urban living, Pasar Hidup transforms the traditional market into a playful, inclusive and dynamic environment that supports daily life, fosters social connections and strengthens the sense of community.
