Mukesh Sonal Gandhi

About

Sonal is a BA (Hons) Interior Design graduate with a strong interest in creating human-centred and emotionally responsive spaces.

Her work explores how materiality, light and spatial sequencing influence how people feel, move and connect within environments.

She is particularly drawn to designing spaces that foster comfort, safety and a sense of belonging because she believes that safety is not just physical but emotional, rooted in dignity and peace. Through her designs, Sonal aims to create spaces that heal and protect—places where one can pause, feel safe and begin again.

Nivāraṇa

Image

Front elevation Designed as a protective embrace where architecture becomes shelter, healing and hope.

Nivāraṇa is a women’s shelter and therapy centre designed as a safe, nurturing environment for survivors of trauma.

Rooted in the everyday realities of vulnerability and the need for secure, supportive spaces, the project reimagines shelter as a place of comfort and dignity.

Through protective forms, natural materials and a central courtyard, it creates a journey from fear to healing, empowerment and renewal.
