About
Pyae Sone Hein is an emerging designer whose practice is shaped by a deep curiosity across mediums, visual expression and human behaviour.
His work is grounded in a thoughtful approach to concept development, where ideas are not only generated but carefully questioned, refined and given meaning. He is particularly interested in how abstract thoughts and emotions can be translated into spatial experiences for physical engagement.
His design approach explores the relationship between function and lived experience, challenging conventional notions of how spaces are formed and understood. Rather than treating function as a fixed requirement, he sees it as something that evolves through human interaction, memory and everyday rituals. Through this perspective, his projects aim to create meaningful environments that resonate on both practical and emotional levels.
His work often bridges narrative and space, crafting environments that tell stories and invite reflection. By connecting people to the deeper essence of each building, he seeks to design spaces that are not only functional, but also empathetic, immersive and enduring.
The proposed art centre and workshop along Jalan Besar is dedicated to migrant workers and domestic helpers.
Acknowledging the emotional weight of displacement, long working hours and homesickness, it is conceived as a refuge for self-expression, healing and belonging. Through art-making, users reconnect with their identity, emotions and personal narratives, transforming creation into a process of reflection and renewal.
The design challenges common perceptions of these communities, emphasising that their potential extends beyond societal assumptions and requires only a shift in perspective. Spatially, it fosters openness, creativity and comfort, translating empathy into lived experience.
More than a place for making art, it becomes a platform for rediscovering self-worth, dignity and meaningful human connection.
