In the historic district of Jalan Besar, a community shaped by craftsmanship and everyday traditions continues to thrive quietly, yet many elderly residents experience loneliness and a diminishing sense of purpose.
Heartland Garden responds to this with a gentle, inclusive space rooted in care and connection. Urban farming becomes a shared language of nature, offering daily interaction, routine and belonging. Handicraft areas enable elders to pass on skills, fostering intergenerational exchange and reaffirming their value within the community.
A warm café supports casual encounters and long-held social rituals, while a rooftop sensory garden, co-created by residents, offers a serene retreat for reflection, relaxation and healing. More than a space, the project cultivates care, connection and a living sense of community.
