Cantocan

Branding Project

CantoCan is a playful Cantonese learning platform designed for anyone looking to learn or reconnect with the language on the go.

As Cantonese gradually fades among younger generations, the project aims to revive its cultural richness through engaging and accessible learning.

Users follow the daily adventures of mascot characters inspired by iconic Cantonese dishes, learning everyday phrases through lively illustrations and animations. Combining nostalgia, humour and convenience, CantoCan transforms language learning into an enjoyable experience.

Its goal is simple: helping users go from “I can’t speak Cantonese” to confidently saying “I can!”.

Moleskine Notebook Design (Competition Winner)

Illustration Project

Jyu's illustration for the UAS x Moleskine Notebook Cover Design Contest was awarded fourth place and is currently available in Moleskine stores.

The competition theme, 'What Singapore Genius Means to You', explores the idea that Singapore Genius is not defined by a single individual, but by a collective mindset. It reflects the spirit of collaboration, where people from all walks of life work together, resulting in the vibrant, thriving Singapore we see today.

Jyu drew inspiration from Singapore’s iconic shophouses, whose architectural blend of Chinese, Malay and European influences reflect cultural diversity and the hard work of Peranakan families who built these lively communities. From the shophouse, the Singapore Orchid blooms, symbolising the nation’s growth, and beauty while unleashing enduring waves of inspiration.

Below the bloom, the figures holding hands represent how collective effort and unity, which cultivate Singapore and lead to the creation of landmarks such as Gardens by the Bay. The reflecting lion embodies the Singapore Genius identity—fierce and assertive yet humble, always thinking ahead.

The butterfly symbolises the butterfly effect, illustrating how positive change is influential, with the spark representing everlasting inspiration. Together, these elements capture the spirit of unity, resilience and innovation that continues to make Singapore bloom with culture, diversity and prosperity.

Jyu is deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in the competition and to see her design brought to life and made available in stores, making it especially meaningful to see her work out in the real world.

Scaredy Bunny

Animation Project

Directed and illustrated by Jyu, this animation follows a bunny as it navigates a series of obstacles in pursuit of a bowl of fruit.

The animation builds toward a near success, only for the bunny to be startled away by the flick of a cat’s tail moments before taking a bite. It highlights how even small fears can prevent us from achieving our goals, causing us to retreat just as we are on the verge of success.

This project actually marks Jyu's first foray into motion graphics, a medium she discovered last year after taking an animation elective. She instantly fell in love with it and is eager to learn more, developing her skills and incorporating motion graphics into future projects.
